Scanner
PRIVACY, IN PLAIN LANGUAGE
Your documents.
Your decisions.
Private Document Scanner is designed to process and store your document library on your device.
Your documents stay local.
Document images, recognized text, saved summaries, thumbnails, and library information are kept in the app’s private storage. Scanning and text recognition happen on-device. The app has no developer document server, customer accounts, advertising, or analytics SDKs.
Optional Apple Intelligence summaries use Apple’s on-device model to select passages from recognized text. Document text and results stay in the app’s local storage, with no remote-model fallback. Apple may need to download its system model before the feature can work. You choose whether to copy or share a result.
Protection and deletion
The app uses Apple file protection, offers device authentication through App Lock, and hides document previews in the app switcher. The app does not receive your Face ID, Touch ID, or device passcode.
Deleting a document removes it from the saved library. Deleting the app removes its local library. Neither action removes copies you previously exported or placed in backups. Unfinished scans remain in protected recovery storage until saved or discarded.
You choose backups and sharing.
“Allow in device backups” is off by default. When disabled, the app asks Apple’s system to exclude the library from backups. Exclusion is system guidance, not an absolute guarantee, and disabling backups does not remove earlier backup copies.
Turning the setting on makes the library eligible for Apple-managed device backups. It does not start a backup or enable document syncing. Your device settings determine when backups occur. Libraries remain separate on each device.
Importing from a cloud file provider may download that file. Sharing sends a copy to the destination you select, under that service’s privacy practices. The developer cannot retrieve or delete those exported copies.
Apple handles purchases.
Subscriptions use Apple’s purchase system and your Apple Account. The app verifies access on-device. There is no developer receipt-validation server, and the app does not provide payment-card details to the developer. Apple may provide sales and financial reports.
After a subscription ends, you can still read, edit, print, share, or delete existing documents and read, copy, or share saved summaries. New documents follow the free-library allowance.
